At the request of the Lausanne based office of the renowned architectural firm a-rr, Atelier Guggisberg participated in the renovation of a historical building, belonging to the Canton of Vaud. We used our know-how and expertise to make custom-made curtains that met precise specifications for the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne.

We owe our reputation to our team of upholsterers, quilters (or furniture seamstresses), decorators, designers and technicians. But also to our decades of professional know-how. Over the years many local councils, decorators and architects have called on our expertise for the production of curtains, drapes and all kinds of custom upholstery.
As each project is unique, we seek constant collaboration, from the technical study to the implementation. The renovation project of the Musée de l'Élysée required "haute-couture" curtains, custom-made and hand-stitched,suspended on decorative brass bars of high quality.What fabric were used for the curtains at the Musée de l'Elysée?
The handmade curtains of the Musée de l'Élysée were made of natural silk with its noble and comfortable touch.
Silk is obtained from the cocoons of silk butterflies found in nature. Its manufacture is entirely environmentally friendly, the silk larvae being preserved during the process.
The techniques applied to create the curtains of the Musée de l'Élysée
For a result befitting the environment, we opted for a particular finishing technique that requires a great deal of know-how on the part of our craftsmen. This "haute couture" finish is delivered by a lace – embroidered in shades of brown and gold – and hand-sewn onto the tiebacks and the bottom of the curtains. Visually, it adds to the curtains an elegant look while remaining sober.
The Musée de l'Élysée, an important place for photography
As explained by Museums.ch, the reputation of the Musée de l'Élysée extends far beyond Switzerland. The museum was founded in 1985 as a centre for the world of photography. With reference publications, innovative exhibitions and events open to the public, it preserves and promotes an invaluable visual heritage. Its unique collection includes more than 100,000 prints, not to mention its numerous photographic holdings.
Each year, the venues present four major exhibitions in Lausanne as well as some fifteen exhibitions scattered throughout the world, in other museums and on the occasion of prestigious festivals.
