Designs to suit all formats
Curtains, drapes, net curtains, blinds or acoustic solutions - the workshop works on projects of all sizes, from simple window dressing to the complete renovation of a theatre. Emblematic projects include haute couture curtains for the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, and fire-resistant thermal curtains to bring the Château de Chillon up to standard.
Expertise for high-traffic areas
Over the years, we've built up a wealth of expertise in public and high-traffic areas. Museums, hotels, restaurants, theatres, clinics, schools - Atelier Guggisberg adapts each project to the specific characteristics of the site. This includes, for example, faithful restoration of a listed building or discreet integration into a contemporary interior. This type of project often raises technical issues that would take a long time to detail in a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. That's why we invite you to contact us directly to discuss them, especially if you have a specific or complex project.
Our work process is structured to support professionals effectively at every stage. It also ensures fast, controlled deadlines.
A typical project is as follows:
- Making contact and analysing your needs: We start with an in-depth discussion of your project. This can take place by telephone, e-mail or during a meeting in our workshop. We collect your wishes and your technical and aesthetic constraints. If necessary, an on-site visit is organised to take measurements and better understand the context.
- Advice and technical studies: With the support of our design office, we can guide you in your choice of fabrics, fixing systems or acoustic solutions. We can also produce technical drawings or hand sketches to visualise the rendering. You receive a detailed proposal, including recommended materials and a production schedule. This allows you to validate the project in complete transparency.
- Made-to-measure in our workshops: Once the quotation has been approved, production begins in Lausanne or Rolle, depending on the nature of the project. Our seamstresses and upholsterers create your curtains, seats or drapes with the utmost care. Thanks to an efficient organisation and a dedicated team, our lead times are fast. They often exceed industry standards. We do our utmost to meet your deadlines. What's more, we're always available to answer any questions during this phase.
- Delivery, installation and follow-up: Once the finishing touches have been made, we organise the installation with our team. This includes installing rods, stretching wall fabrics or setting up furniture. Our fitters ensure the quality of the final result, in compliance with the standards and finishes expected. After installation, we remain available to answer any questions or make any adjustments. A maintenance service can also be provided to ensure the longevity of your fittings.
Our way of working is both clear and adaptable. The customer is kept informed at every stage, and we adapt to their way of working (coordination with a site architect, site access times, etc.). Our aim is to deliver impeccable work, as quickly as possible, to meet or even anticipate your professional requirements. Some details are given in our FAQ, but for specific cases it's often easiest to contact us directly.
Atelier Guggisberg is based in French-speaking Switzerland, with two workshops in Lausanne and Rolle (between Geneva and Morges). This dual location allows us to be close to our customers on the Lake Geneva region and to intervene rapidly on site. We regularly carry out projects throughout French-speaking Switzerland. (This includes the cantons of Vaud, Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Valais, as well as German-speaking Switzerland on request.
Interventions possible in German-speaking Switzerland and abroad
Thanks to our flexible organisation, we can plan on-site interventions within reasonable timescales. For large-scale projects, we are prepared to intervene throughout Switzerland and even abroad if necessary. For example, we and our partners have already installed floor coverings and textile decorations outside Switzerland. Thanks to our logistical experience, we can ship and install our projects on international sites in consultation with our customers.
Atelier Guggisberg perpetuates century-old craftsmanship in upholstery and furniture sewing. A family business from the outset, the workshop draws on solid technical expertise and a culture of craftsmanship.
Our team of around fifteen passionate craftsmen work by hand, according to the rules of the art. Our aim: to guarantee exceptional quality in every piece we make.
Here are a few aspects of our expertise:
- Traditional techniques: We use methods that have been tried and tested for generations. For example, horsehair upholstery for seats (a technique dating back to the seventeenth century), hand-stitching for curtain finishing (braids, tiebacks), or hanging wall hangings using skills that are rare in Switzerland. This respect for traditional craftsmanship ensures high-quality, long-lasting results.
- Contemporary and modern methods: At the same time, we work with contemporary materials and technical tools. These include high-density foams, M1-certified fabrics, acoustic textiles and motorised track systems. So we meet today's standards for safety, comfort and performance. Our strength lies in our ability to combine fine craftsmanship with modern technology.
- Production capacity: Our workshops in Lausanne and Rolle produce both one-off pieces and series. It could be a small series of cushions for a boutique hotel. Or dozens of pairs of curtains for a large auditorium. We produce in volume while retaining a handcrafted finish. It's this combination that sets us apart.
- Showroom, textile expertise and finishing: We have a vast knowledge of furnishing textiles. The showroom offers over 25,000 fabrics, from classic linen to the latest technical materials. We like to explore textures, play with light, and come up with unexpected combinations. Decorative pleats, refined trimmings or complex finishes: every detail counts in the creation of a decor. Our craftsmen have mastered top-of-the-range finishes to create personalised decors down to the smallest detail.
This dual expertise - traditional gestures and technical innovations - enables us to respond to a wide variety of requests. Precision, creativity and adaptation guide our work, whatever the context. Each project benefits from a tailor-made approach, designed to respect the constraints of the site and the expectations of the professional customer. If you'd like to find out more about the way we work, a face-to-face meeting is often the best way to make concrete progress.
To start a project with us, simply get in touch to discuss your requirements. You can contact us by telephone, e-mail or via the online form. We will then arrange a meeting at the workshop or at the project site.
Initial discussion and understanding of needs
During this initial discussion, we listen to your objectives: the ambience you're looking for, technical constraints, budget, deadlines, etc. This allows us to assess your requirements more accurately. Depending on the case, we may already be able to suggest possible solutions. Don't hesitate to bring visual elements (plans, photos, fabric or colour samples). This facilitates communication and helps us to better understand your wishes.
Discovering the showroom and choosing materials
We will invite you to discover our fabric showroom, where perhaps we will, together, refine your choice of materials and finishes. Of course this step is not necessary, as in many cases all the choices have already been made in advance.
Cost estimates and project launch
Personalised support throughout the project
We do offer advice and technical support, but our main role remains the practical implementation of your professionally designed projects. In practical terms, this means that you have the idea, and we turn it into reality. Atelier Guggisberg is first and foremost an executive partner: we bring decorators‘ or architects’ concepts to life with expertise and reliability.
That said, we know that every project may require adjustments or technical choices along the way. That's why our design office is at your disposal for ‘à la carte’ advice. If you wish, we can advise you on the choice of textiles, the feasibility of certain finishes, suitable fixing systems or the integration of acoustic solutions. We can be involved at a very early stage to carry out a technical study, or on an ad hoc basis to validate a detail. However, you remain in control of the overall decorative vision - especially if you are the project's interior architect or scenographer - and we put our expertise at the service of this vision.
Just send us a request! 📝 You'll find the email address further down this page. To get a quote, you can :
- By telephone: to discuss the broad outlines of the project. An oral estimate can be given at this stage, before moving on to a more detailed written proposal.
- By e-mail or via the contact form: describing your requirements: type of project, approximate dimensions, number of elements, type of fabric or desired ambience. Adding photos or plans makes the analysis much easier.
- By appointment: with an on-site visit, recommended for complex projects or premises that have already been fitted out. This visit allows us to take measurements, assess technical constraints and show you samples.
Once we've gathered all the necessary information, we'll draw up a detailed estimate that includes the various services (making, supply of materials, installation, etc.), the quantities involved and the corresponding prices. We also specify the estimated lead times. This estimate is sent to you by e-mail for validation. If you have several options or variants, we can draw up several comparative quotes to help you decide (for example, comparing the cost between two types of fabric or between a standard finish and a luxury finish).
Different factors make our workshop a unique partner for your interior design projects:
- Proven, local expertise: Atelier Guggisberg's craftsmanship has been passed down through several generations. It all began in a garage as a workshop making made-to-measure curtains. Our tradition, combined with modern technical expertise, enables us to approach each project with exacting standards and precision - whether it involves heritage restoration or contemporary textile decoration. Based in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, the workshop prides itself on being close to its customers, responsive and attentive to their needs - assets that are often lacking in larger industrial manufacturers. The workshop's expertise covers all types of made-to-measure curtains.
- Tradition and innovation: The workshop works by hand, using traditional methods, while incorporating technical advances in the textile sector. This can range from making top-of-the-range curtains for a listed building to creating acoustic solutions for a contemporary space, or restoring antique furniture.
- A complete service for professionals: Unlike simple manufacturers, we support our customers from A to Z if that's what they need. We can take care of everything from advice and technical studies to manufacture, on-site installation and maintenance. This saves valuable time for architects and project managers, who can rely on us for the textile/furniture aspect and concentrate on the rest. Our ‘à la carte’ approach offers rare flexibility - you only pay for the services you need - and cuts out unnecessary intermediaries.
- Recognised deadlines and reliability: When it comes to professional projects, coordination and deadlines are just as important as quality. The studio strives to strike the right balance between technical expectations, scheduling imperatives and the realities on the ground. Each project sometimes requires adjustments, which we address in dialogue with our partners, to make the best progress within the given framework.
- Unique, personalised designs: With made-to-measure curtains, you have total freedom to create curtains that reflect your image. Size, fabric, colour, pattern, style of pleats or fastenings: everything can be customised to perfectly match your interior design. What's more, our decorating consultants can help you design unique curtains. They'll make sure they match your tastes and the ambience of your space. You are no longer limited to the standardised collections of the big names. Your made-to-measure curtains become unique pieces that reflect your personality and enhance your interior. As mentioned above, we have many years' experience as upholsterers and in making made-to-measure curtains.
Combining exacting craftsmanship with on-the-spot support, the workshop puts its skills to work on complex or sensitive projects. A direct, precise approach that makes a difference over time.
Yes, we can supply all the fabrics and materials required to complete your project, thanks to our many partnerships with publishers and suppliers. Our showroom has a selection of over 25,000 different fabrics, ideal for making made-to-measure curtains and more, in all styles and price ranges. This enables us to offer our customers a wide choice of furnishing fabrics (cottons, linens, velvets, silks, technical fireproof fabrics, outdoor fabrics, etc.) as well as linkages, track systems, foams, carpets and other materials related to our services.
During the initial consultation phase, we'll help you to choose the most suitable materials according to your aesthetic and technical criteria. If you're looking for something specific (for example, a textile from a particular manufacturer or a specific colour), we'll do what's necessary to order it or offer you an equivalent. Using our supplies ensures consistency in quality and often optimised lead times, as we are used to working with these references.
That said, we remain flexible: if you or your customer already has a fabric or material you'd like to use, we'll be happy to incorporate it into the project. Our ‘à la carte’ approach means that you are free to supply certain materials if you wish. For example, some decorators entrust us with a rare fabric that they have selected themselves. In this case, we simply adjust our offer: we will take care of the tailoring and possibly the fitting, while the cost of the fabric is not included on our side. Each service is billed separately, so everything is transparent for you. Every made-to-measure curtain project is carefully studied.
